Finland is well positioned to become a world leader in the responsible textile and fashion industry

On 3 October, Professor Minna Halme from the Sustainability in Business research group kicked off the first of Aalto Business School’s monthly “Better Business – Better Society” seminars. Her talk addressed the ecological and social damages of the fashion and textile industries, from pollution and waste to poor wages and unsafe working conditions. She then followed the problems with potential solutions, like new business models and materials, that can be implemented in Finland.

Following her talk was a panel featured innovators in the responsible clothing and textile world: Petri Alava, CEO of Infinited Fibre Company; Heli Antila, Vice President of Fortum Biobased Solutions; Dr. Kirsi Niinimäki, Professor of Fashion Research, Aalto University School of Arts and Design; Hannes Bengs, Founder of Pure Waste Textiles; and Lotta Steffans, Parliamentary Advisor, Executive Director of Eetti Ry and advisor for UseLess Company Oy.
